Bake Your Own Bread
For most of us bread is a staple. Where I am, a cheap loaf of generic bread costs about $1 or $2 for a good loaf. I've found that I can make my own delicious hearty bread for about 45-50 cents per loaf. If I make sourdough bread then it can be as little as 25 cents per loaf. That can add up to a substantial savings. If you're paying $2 per loaf and use a loaf per day then you could save $52 by learning to make your own sourdough bread. That works out to be about $14/hour for your work (assuming 30 minutes of hands on time per batch of 4 loaves). And you get delicious bread in the end! The easiest way to make bread is in a bread machine. Bread machines can now be found used in thrift stores so you won't have to pay that much if you want to go this route. I calculated that if I spend 10 minutes per loaf with my bread machine and 30 minutes of hands on work to make 4 loaves I can actually come out ahead by making them by hand.
