Radical frugality is at the heart of Christianity. God gave us the perfect example of a selfless lifestyle in his Son, Jesus. God left all the glory of heaven and was humbly born as a baby in a stable. He then grew into a man that loved and served others as much as he loved himself. He lived and ate with the poor. He abandoned all honour, and praise in order to better serve humanity. He ultimately was led to his death because of his refusal to conform to the selfish patterns of this world. Thanks to God, though, death did not conquer him and he was raised from the dead. He now empowers and commands those that follow him to live selfless lives as he did. In essence we love because he first loved us.
